JT Plumbing Services
Emergency Plumber — Huon Valley, Franklin & Kingston
If water is coming out of something that should not have water coming out of it, call 0458 989 134. You get a local plumber, not a call centre.
JT Plumbing is based in Franklin. That matters at 11pm on a Sunday, because a Hobart call centre will take your details, promise someone within the hour, and then send a van from forty minutes away — if they send one at all. We are already in the Valley.
What counts as an emergency
You do not have to be sure. If you are wondering whether to call, call.
The jobs we get out for after hours:
- A burst or leaking pipe you cannot stop
- No water at all to the house
- A blocked toilet in a one-bathroom home
- Sewage or wastewater backing up into the house or yard
- A hot water system that has split and is dumping water
- A gas smell near a hot water unit or appliance (if you can smell gas, leave the house and ring TasGas or 000 first, then ring us)
- Storm damage that has water getting somewhere it should not
Before you ring, if you can do it safely: turn the water off at the meter or the tank. On most Huon Valley properties the mains tap is at the front boundary; on tank-fed properties it is usually at the tank outlet. Knowing where yours is before you need it is five minutes well spent.
What happens when you call
- A plumber picks up. Not a receptionist, not an after-hours answering service. You will be talking to someone from the team who can actually tell you what to do next.
- We work out if it can wait. Sometimes the honest answer is “turn the water off at the meter and I will be there at seven in the morning, and that will save you the after-hours rate.” We will tell you that.
- You get told the call-out fee before we leave. Standard hours and after-hours are different rates, and you will hear the number that applies to you on the phone. No surprises on the invoice.
- We tell you roughly when. A real time, based on where the ute actually is.
Available after hours, genuinely
We take emergency calls after hours, on weekends and on public holidays. That is not a marketing line — it is why the Google listing says Open 24 hours, and the two match.
What it does not mean is that every job gets done at midnight. Sometimes the right answer is to make it safe tonight and come back properly in the morning, and that will save you money. We will tell you which one you are looking at when you ring.
Frequently asked questions
There is a call-out fee that covers getting to you and diagnosing the problem, and it is higher after hours, on weekends and on public holidays than during standard hours. You will be told the number that applies to you when you ring — before we get in the ute. Anything beyond the call-out is quoted before we start. Emergency call-out fees vary across southern Tasmania; ring us and we will tell you exactly what ours is.
Yes, after-hours and weekend call-outs are charged at a higher rate than standard hours. Most jobs we take after hours genuinely cannot wait. If yours can, we will tell you and book you in for the next working day at the standard rate rather than let you pay the premium for nothing.
On a mains-connected property in Kingston or Huonville, the tap is usually in a meter box at the front boundary. On tank-fed properties across the Valley it is normally at the tank outlet or where the line enters the house. Find yours now, not at 2am.
Yes. Kingston, Blackmans Bay, Margate, Snug and Huntingfield are all within our service area. The drive is longer than Huonville, so we will be straight with you about timing when you ring.
Then we tell you, and you pay the call-out fee rather than a full job. That has happened plenty of times and nobody has ever been annoyed about it.
