Bathroom Renovations — Huon Valley, Franklin & Kingston

A bathroom renovation done by the plumber, not by a project manager who subcontracts the plumber.

We renovate bathrooms across the Huon Valley and Kingborough — full rebuilds, and the smaller jobs that make an old bathroom liveable without gutting it.

What we take on

Full renovations. Strip out, re-plumb, waterproof, and coordinate the tiler, electrician and plasterer. You deal with us, not with five trades.

Partial updates. New vanity, new toilet suite, shower conversion, replacing a corroded old bath with a walk-in shower. Plenty of Huon Valley bathrooms need a good update rather than a rebuild, and it costs a third as much.

Accessibility modifications. Level-entry showers, grab rails, raised toilet suites. Genuinely useful work in an area with an ageing population and a lot of two-storey older homes.

Laundries while we are there, because it is usually the same wall.

How it runs

  1. On-site look and quote. We measure, work out what is behind the walls, and give you a written price rather than a range.
  2. A start date and a finish date. A bathroom is the room a household cannot do without. You will be told how many days you are out of it, and if that changes you will hear it from us before you notice it yourself.
  3. Strip out and rough-in. The plumbing goes in before anything looks like a bathroom.
  4. Waterproofing. Certified, and the certificate goes to you. This is the step that failing renovations skip and it is the one that costs the most to put right later.
  5. Fit off and finish. Fixtures in, tested, cleaned up, rubbish taken away.
  6. We come back if something is not right.

How we price it

Every bathroom is quoted on site and in writing. We do not price bathrooms over the phone, and you should be wary of anyone who does — the number that matters is decided by what is behind the wall, and nobody knows that until they look.

What the written quote includes:

  • The fixtures, named, so you can compare quotes properly
  • Waterproofing, certified, with the certificate to you
  • Trade coordination — tiler, electrician, plasterer
  • Removal and disposal
  • A start date and a finish date

Bathroom renovations in southern Tasmania generally start from around $149 for a straightforward like-for-like refit, and rise from there with layout changes, fixture choice and whatever the strip-out uncovers.

Two things that move the number on a Huon Valley job specifically, and are worth knowing before you get quotes:

What is behind the wall. In a house from the fifties there is often galvanised pipe and no insulation. That gets found on day one, not in the quote, unless the plumber has looked properly. We look properly.

Whether you are on septic. Adding a second bathroom or a bedroom can push an existing septic system past its rated capacity, which means a system upgrade and a council approval on top of the bathroom. Better to know that at quote stage. More on septic capacity.

Why use your plumber

On most bathroom renovations the plumbing is the largest and least visible part of the job, and it is the part that causes the expensive problems — leaks behind new tiles, waste falls that do not fall, waterproofing that was rushed because the tiler was booked for Tuesday.

When the plumber is running the job, that part gets done first and gets done properly, and nobody is being hurried by someone else’s schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bathroom renovations in southern Tasmania generally start from around $150 for a straightforward like-for-like refit, and rise from there with layout changes, fixture choice and whatever the strip-out uncovers. We quote on site in writing rather than over the phone, because bathrooms hide surprises and a phone number is a guess.

A typical full bathroom renovation takes around 3–4 weeks, while a partial update can often be completed sooner. Before work starts, we’ll give you a clear expected start date and completion timeframe. If anything unexpected affects the schedule, we’ll let you know straight away — so you’re never left wondering what’s happening with your bathroom.

We coordinate them. JT Plumbing does the plumbing and waterproofing and brings in tilers, electricians and plasterers we work with regularly. You have one point of contact for the job.

Replacing fixtures in the same positions generally does not. Moving plumbing, adding a bathroom, or anything that affects an onsite wastewater system usually does. We will tell you which one you are looking at before you commit.

It can. Onsite wastewater systems are sized on bedroom count and load, and adding a bathroom or a bedroom can push an older system past capacity — which means an upgrade and a Huon Valley Council approval on top of the renovation. Worth checking at quote stage.
